Designer Julie Lamb has been honing her design skills since she was a child stringing together beads, keys, and anything that wasn’t nailed down! After a first-class education and a decorated career designing collections for companies large and small, Julie took a leap of faith and launched her eponymous collection in 2014. Her pieces playfully merge traditional craftsmanship with new technology and encourage its wearers to express their individuality. We’re delighted to welcome Julie to JA New York so we can ogle all of her impeccable pieces in person!
JA New York: My style muse is….
Julie Lamb: ME.
JA New York: The difference between style and trend is…
JL: Style is personal expression through appearance, a projection of who you are, who you want to be and what you’re doing. Trend is what’s popular right this minute and may or may not work with your style.
JA New York: In five words, how would you define your design aesthetic?
JL: Different, empowering, symbolic, solid, playful
JA New York: What are your top 5 studio essentials?
JL: iPhone, technical pencils, t-square, hair clip, mm gauge
JA New York: I’m always inspired by….?
JL: Loose gems. They tell me how they want to be set. I just listen : )
JA New York: What is your favorite piece that you’ve ever designed?
JL: The Freelancer hinged band. It harkens back to the hinged pieces I was making as a metalsmithing student at Syracuse. The Freelancer is the evolved version, now built in CAD and set with baguette diamonds. I love to see people’s reactions when I take it off and show them the movement. It’s a versatile piece, It could be worn as an alternative wedding band or a stack ring. How industrial details meet luxury in this piece describes my ideal aesthetic. Also, the name and # hold a lot of meaning for me. The past few years on my own after a career of full time design positions has taught me to #BeFlexible in a big way!
JA New York: In thinking about exhibiting in the New Designer Gallery, what are you most excited about?
JL: Meeting some of the retailers who I only have a relationship with on Instagram in real life!
JA New York: What are you most nervous about?
JL: The Big Pitch!
