Huan Wang, the artist behind JeweLyrie, designs contemporary fine jewelry for elegant and modern women. With a free spirit and dreams of forging her way on a creative path, Huan’s love of metalsmithing combined with her formal training in fashion design in the creation of a contemporary collection that is infused with a sense of movement and grace. Passionate about ballet, her works’ identifying characteristic is a twist that was inspired by a dancer’s pirouette, and she views each of her pieces as a performance, with the gemstone taking center stage.
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Huan Wang: I believe we were all born to be free and beautiful. I design contemporary fine jewelry with a free spirit in mind for an elegant, modern women. I have a fashion design background gained through Parson’s School of Design, and I am fascinated by ancient metal smithing techniques. Inspired by contemporary ballet, I create each piece of jewelry like I am producing a performance with the stone taking center stage and the dancing metal giving the stage captivating movement. I want women to be dashingly elegant wearing JeweLyrie’s creations – jewelry with a unique play of lights in gem stones, textured metals, and sexy flowing lines. And I hope the innovation and versatility of JeweLyrie creations free your spirit. Free Your Beautiful Me.
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer in mind when you’re designing?
HW: A strong and graceful dancer from the inside out, her free spirit is contagious and she illuminates her surroundings. She dreams her life, she lives her dream, and she works hard to make her dreams come alive.
JA New York: What is your biggest source of design inspiration?
HW: Dance. Contemporary ballet to be exact. I’ve felt a strong connection to the art ever since I can remember. I feel fortunate that I get to “dance” with gold and diamonds!
Chinese calligraphy is another big source of my inspiration. Like dance, it also inspires me in a subconscious way. Being my only consistent art education throughout my childhood and adolescence in China, it taught me to appreciate balance, contrast, proportion, and rhythm in a very special way.
JA New York: What’s one thing that always makes you smile?
HW: My family! My husband Ge fills my life with love. He gives me all the support and is my source of knowledge. I can find all the answers I need by going to him. I am so proud of my first daughter, Lyrie, who is now in college. I named my business after her. I can watch my sweet and wild Olivia dance for hours. And my little Bryan, gives me unconditional love. We also live with Hachi, Kylo, Molly, and Minnie; an Akita, Shiba Inu, Pug, and grey tabby cat.
JA New York: If you could be a TV/Movie villain, who would you be and why?
HW: It will has to be Christina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy. She’s not technically a villain, but there’s badness in her that I like and admire, in addition to her being super focused, ambitious and funny!
