Designer Justin Brown brings the same level of passion and excitement to the creation of every piece of jewelry he creates as he did to the first piece he made–his wife’s engagement ring! Colors in unique combinations, abrupt lines and the marriage of 18k gold with silver are all hallmarks of this collection of jewelry that is begging to be stacked and layered. In Justin’s own words, “Justin Brown Jewelry is an evolving collection of must-haves for the daring daydreamer, and can’t-live-withouts for the night schemer.”
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Justin Brown: Hand-crafted, elegant, easy-to-wear, and colorful gemstone pieces. #madeinmassachusetts
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer in mind when you’re designing?
JB: My greatest fantasy is to be sitting on the T, commuting into town and looking up to see one of my pieces being worn by someone heading into work for the day! My goal when designing is to create easy-to-wear pieces for the modern day professional.
JA New York: What is your biggest source of design inspiration?
JB: The Roaring Twenties baby! Whenever I am lost as to what to make next, I always look back to Art Deco and Georgian vintage jewelry; I am enamored with the elegance of repeating lines and geometric designs from that era.
JA New York: What’s one thing that always makes you smile?
JB: I am a big ol’ jewelry nerd! So, whenever I see someone wearing good designer/couture jewelry that always makes me happy. And of course my lovely wife!
JA New York: If you could be a TV/Movie villain, who would you be and why?
JB: Oh Magneto without question! How easy would it be to be a jeweler if I could just manipulate metal with my mind! Never have to worry about solder joints or breaking a stone while setting again. Sign me up!
My second choice would be an Imperial officer in charge of quality control on the Death Star. I’d like to think I would have been able to spot the flaw in the station’s design that lead to its downfall!
JA New York: Do you have a “special skill” that people don’t know about?
JB: I make some kick-ass chicken parmesan, the secret is using a 3-part dredge and seasoning the flour.
JA New York: If you could spend one day in somebody else’s shoes, whom would it be and why?
JB: This is a tough one. I am very happy in my own shoes and feel very blessed to have the life I have. I could say some rich billionaire but I think I would just blow tons of money being childish. Or I could say some celebrity, but I don’t actually like that much attention! I think I would like to spend one day as a monk, far away in an abbey or temple in a remote mountainous location. I think it would be a very mind-opening day …but it would definitely just have to be the one day, I don’t have nearly enough dedication or self control to do that full-time!
