Erin Deluca‘s jewelry is made to be loved and worn daily. What began as a hobby in a local craft center evolved into a year’s immersion studying jewelry design and technical studies in Italy, followed by a two year intensive training here in the states. After graduation, Erin’s education continued while working for a jewelry manufacturing company, as well as a contemporary jewelry designer, before she launched her eponymous line in 2013.
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Erin Deluca: I create fine jewelry that can be loved and worn everyday, whether on its own or layered with your other favorite pieces, it’s meant to become a part of you. I try to create a sense of timelessness in the pieces by incorporating vintage patterns or textiles with clean modern lines. My hope is that there is a beautiful simplicity to the pieces in the lines and finishing and also an element that draws you in, a desire to look more closely.
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer in mind when you’re designing?
ED: I often start designing while thinking about pieces I would want to wear myself. I love the delicacy of fine jewelry but I’m not always the easiest on my jewelry, I imagine the wearer of my jewelry to be similar in the sense that they find pieces they love and want to wear them all the time. So, I try to design pieces that look delicate but can stand up to me wearing them all day, everyday.
JA New York: What is your biggest source of design inspiration?
ED: Currently, I am all about lace. There is something about combining the delicacy of vintage hand sewn lace with the strength and durability of metal that I can’t get enough of.
JA New York: What’s one thing that always makes you smile?
ED: Cat memes still get me, every time.
JA New York: Do you have a “special skill” that people don’t know about?
ED: I can fall both up and down the stairs, it’s a real talent.
