In the beginning of January, New York City always plays host to several sparkling industry-related events. From the GEM Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street, to the 24 Karat Club of New York’s annual banquet, and the many luncheons and meet ups in between, the air feels positively charged with the high-watt jewelry that’s always on display throughout the weekend! As much as we love attending events that are tied to the various trade shows we attend throughout the year, there’s something very special about this “stand alone” weekend. While business certainly gets done, the entire point of the weekend is to just get together, suit up in our finest attire, and enjoy one another’s company!
The GEM Awards event on Friday was spectacular, with three talented designers being honored, prominent members of the press celebrated, innovative retail honored, and Ed Bridge of Ben Bridge Jewelers taking home a Lifetime Achievement Award. Earlier in the day on Friday, Jewelers Vigilance Committee held their annual luncheon, which was a great opportunity to mingle and be reminded of all of the incredible work that organization does on behalf of our industry.
On Saturday, Jewelers Security Alliance held their annual luncheon at the New York City Yacht Club, where several members of law enforcement were justly acknowledged for their service to the safety of our entire industry. And of course, we capped the weekend at the 24 Karat Club event at the Hyatt, where English singer/songwriter Calum Scott wooed attendees with his sweet lyrics and soulful voice. The formal banquet was followed by a lively afterparty with a DJ (and electric saxophone player!) that got everyone to hit the dance floor until the wee hours of the night.
Overall the weekend was full of amazing opportunities to catch up with long-time friends, make new friends, and celebrate this amazing industry that we’re all excited to be a part of!
