JA New York: How long have you been designing jewelry?
Jennifer Jordan Park for Wear Ever Jewelry: I have been creating jewelry since 2003. I have MA and BFA degrees and I previously made a living doing graphic design for over 20 years.
JA New York: What about jewelry as an art form are you drawn to in particular?
JJ: I like the interaction that jewelry has with the body. When wearing jewelry, a relationship is created between object and wearer; a relationship that can transform both the wearer and the object. The wearer can feel it on the body and may change his or her outlook, demeanor, and mindset. The object itself can significantly change when worn by different people in that fit and color of skin can perceptually change a piece of jewelry; it will look different on each individual.
The other aspect of jewelry that fascinates me is its cultural significance. Virtually all societies throughout history have used personal adornment as signifiers of wealth and power. This is still true today.
JA New York: What inspires your designs?
JJ: I really like working with line and color. For most pieces, I start by drawing lines that express movement and energy. I may use photographs for inspiration and reference.
JA New York: Instagram or Facebook?
JA New York: If you got a one-way plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
JJ: I would travel all over Europe and go to a different museum every week, exploring past cultures.
