It was boredom at her first “real” job that ultimately led Metal Mingle designer Tiffanie to take a metalwork class, where she discovered she had a natural talent for her craft. Since then, she has continued to fuel her creative fire in the creation of her prolific collection of modern, stylish and minimalist mixed-metal designs.
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Tiffanie: Metal Mingle is an adaptable, mixed metal jewelry line for the busy, laid-back fashionista – with minimalist pieces suitable for her everyday (and night) life, easily wearable with a pair of jeans or her favorite new dress.
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer in mind when you are designing?
T: Definitely. I always have the modern, fashionable woman in mind – the kind that loves style, but has limited time to fuss over which accessories she will wear with any of her possible outfits of the day. I strive to make sure all the pieces created can easily transition and be worn from one setting to the next.
JA New York: What is your biggest source of inspiration?
T: This will sound cliché (I’m owning it), but I’d have to say women as a whole. We always have so much on our plate and it’s amazing how much we are accomplishing socially, artistically, and in so many other ways. When challenges come up creatively or in everyday life, it’s nice to be able to draw inspiration from either one particular woman who fits the circumstance or to just feel empowered being a woman in general.
JA New York: What is the first thing you do when waking up?
T: I lie in the bed wide awake for however long it takes (usually 10-15 minutes) to map out what I think my day should look like and what activities are the priority.
JA New York: What is the last thing you do?
T: I do a 2-5 minute guided meditation on my phone.
JA New York: What was your biggest fashion faux pas?
T: I don’t have that one mortifying fashion experience, but I have looked at pictures of myself at often documented life events (weddings, etc) and wondered why I thought my outfits were good choices. Now thinking about it, it’s usually something formal – I’m mostly a casual and jeans lover so having to play dress up is somewhat of a chore.
JA New York: Who was your favorite teacher (in school or in life)?
T: I honestly sat on this question for several minutes and settled that I don’t have just one. And for sure not a favorite. I’m a sponge and have absorbed lots of valuable lessons from different sources – my family, teachers (at every level), fellow artists, friends, lovers, and myself.
JA New York: What is your guilty pleasure?
T: Television: While I watch some well written, creatively genius ones, some of the shows I’ve allowed myself to fall into are really bad for my conscience and mind (but oh so good for my heart and soul).
