Born and raised in the majestic surroundings of the Rocky mountains of Montana, designer Rachel Atherley is continually inspired by the natural world around her. Rachel re-interprets the forms and patterns she sees through the lens of fine jewelry, and we’ve also discovered that she’s definitely the person you want to keep around if you’re planning your next move!
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Rachel Atherly: My collection is inspired by nature and created with the utmost respect for nature. It is all hand-crafted in my Hudson Valley studio using green processes and all ethically sourced precious metal and gemstones. Each piece is created with the highest craftsmanship to ensure heirloom.
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer in mind when you’re designing?
RA: My woman has an eye for design. She has the ability to silently distinguish herself simply through what she chooses to wear that day. Without a word she separates herself from the crowd and leaves people wondering where she got “That” from…
JA New York: What is your biggest source of design inspiration?
RA:My biggest source of inspiration comes from the time I spend in nature. Weather it be going on a walk with my son and dog or being on a relaxing beach vacation. There is always something awe inspiring once I venture outside.
JA New York: What is one thing that can always make you smile?
RA:My husband and son. Watching the two of them brings me the greatest joy a girl could ask for. They are beyond adorable together.
JA New York: If you could be a TV/ Movie villain who would you be and why?
RA:I love this question! I would be Gru, the main character from Despicable Me. He is a super villain who has a plan. His plan is to be the most despicable super villain in the entire world. Only he is derailed by love and finds a completely unexpected path in life.
JA New York: If you could spend one day in somebody else’s shoes, whom would it be and why?
RA:If I could spend one day in someone else’s shoes it would have to be Jacques Cousteau. The incredible things that man must have seen! I would love a peek down deep in the ocean like that.
JA New York: Do you have a “special skill” that people don’t know about?
RA: Hmmmm a special skill…I can pack a car with WAY more things than anyone would deem spatially possible. If you ever need anyone to help you fit your entire apartment into a Honda hatchback then I am your girl!
