JA New York: How long have you been designing jewelry?
Elaine B Jewelry: I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2009 with a fine arts degree specializing in metal and glass. Since then I worked for the jeweler, Gabriel Ofiesh, for 3 1/2 years, all the while working and experimenting on my own designs. I have been working full time on EBJ for 2 1/2 years.
JA New York: What about jewelry as an art form are you drawn to in particular?
EB: I think that handmade objects tell a story, they have a life span. I love the tactile quality, the permanence, they way they evoke emotions and memory.
Jewelry is unique because it is so intimate, it is given as a gift, worn close to the body day in and day out. You wear it on your hands, on your neck. I find it very exciting to engineer objects that make people so happy.
JA New York: What inspires your designs?
EB: I really love functionality. It is important to me that everything has a purpose and durability is key. I want pieces to have style and whimsey, while also a timeless minimal quality.
I believe that women should buy quality items. EBJ is gateway jewelry, perfect for when you are ready to upgrade your fast fashion, disposable accessories for ones that you can wear everyday for years to come.
JA New York: Instagram or Facebook?
Both! Instagram is @elainebjewelry, and Facebook is www.facebook.com/elainebjewelry
JA New York: If you got a one-way plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
EB: Argentina, they have every landscape, amazing glaciers, wine country and rainforest. Then I could drive up all the way up the continent stopping at every beach, into North America and back home.
