JA New York partnered with Jewelers of America (JA) to organize a series of education sessions at the 2022 JA New York Summer Show. Developed around the theme “Think Future,” the vibrant, “fireside style” discussions focused on a number of of-the-moment topics relevant to the success of jewelry retailers. From Trends to Technology, panelists shared their expertise and insight and offered easy to implement solutions for incorporating some best practices into one’s business.
On Sunday, Amanda Gizzi of Jewelers of America sat down with Jessica Glysen of Wixon Jewelers and Kathy Dayan of trend-focused manufacturer, Shy Creations, to discuss today’s hottest trends. In addition to identifying current best sellers, the group suggested ways of leveraging these trends to build upon one’s customer base, close sales and establish customer loyalty. With simple applications such as re-wording descriptions, re-merchandizing or re-contextualizing pieces in inventory, the session provided creative ideas and a fresh perspective on how to utilize trends.
In a session entitled “Think Future: People,” Susan Posnock of Jewelers of America was joined by Adrianne Sanogo of Black in Jewelry Coalition for a discussion about the ways in which the jewelry industry is, and needs to, invest in attracting new ideas and talent. Touching on trending news topics such as “Quiet Quitting,” the two also offered helpful ideas for how to maximize job descriptions to ensure you entice the best potential employees, and suggestions for ways of maintain staff and keeping them happy and productive.
Lenore Fedow of National Jeweler moderated a lively discussion on Tech with Alexandra Hevia Schlindwein of Kiefer Jewelers and Jennifer Shaheen of Technology Therapy. Focusing on how technology and innovation are helping our industry, they also shared ideas for enhancing one’s technology profile seamlessly and highlighted the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest available solutions.
Finally, “Think Future: Success in Retail” was host to a panel of 5 retailers from JA’s “20 Under 40” retailer list, moderated by Amanda Gizzi. Stephanie Binder from Boston Diamond Company, Amanda Coleman-Phelps from Nelson Coleman Jewelers & Jewelry By Designs, Jessica Gylsen of Wixon Jewelers, Alexandra Hevia Schlindwein of Kiefer Jewelers and Constance Polamalu from Zachary’s Jewelers all shared the inspiring ways in which they are shepherding their businesses into the future while still paying homage to their history. The final session in the series, this panel discussion culminated in a cocktail event within the Premier Lounge that gave everyone the opportunity to network and spend time with long-time friends.
