As the weather starts getting warmer, our thoughts turn to spending time outside. Just outside the Javits Center doors you can find the High Line, which is an elevated park that is nearly 1.5 miles running alongside the West Side Highway. Built on a historic, elevated railroad line, the park features a unique confluence of several disciplines, including landscape architecture, contemporary urban design philosophies and ecology. Most importantly, it’s just a really pretty place to wander, enjoy some fresh air, and to sit back and relax and people watch!
Art installations, interactive art (see picture of the Lego landscape!) and public performance art are ubiquitous all along the park, which offers a unique perspective of the city that never sleeps! As you meander downtown from the 34th Street entrance, there are several opportunities to take the stairs down and pop into galleries, stores, museums and a plethora of restaurants, bars and coffee shops, including the famous Chelsea Market.
While New York City is famous for its skyscrapers, subways and somewhat gritty urban landscape, a walk on the High Line will leave you with kinder, gentler version of our bustling metropolis.
