We are thrilled to welcome designer Hera to our upcoming spring show! Her distinctive, combination silver and gold jewelry showcases unique textures and naturally colorful gemstones. We caught up with this artist and found out that her love of jewelry is second only to her genuine love of life!
JA New York: What inspires your designs?
Hera: My inspiration comes from everything that surrounds us. I am most inspired when travelling and experiencing different cultures, architecture, art, and landscapes. One of the most inspiring elements is the unique people you meet along the way. My mantra to the brand is ‘Live Life,’ and I feel that everyone has a story and a journey — sharing these stories are truly inspirational.
JA New York: Walk us through your design process?
Hera: Designing is a way of life for me — ideas usually start on a scrap piece of paper, or just a napkin. I compile all the rough sketches until I am ready to create a new collection. It is at this point when I study trends, colours and textures and begin to envision the woman I will be designing for, and everything evolves from there. I design pieces that can be layered together, and love to give my clients the ability to create their own personal looks.
JA New York: If you weren’t a jewelry designer what would you be?
Hera: I am the happiest when I am creating things! I love working with colour and textures, if I were not designing jewelry I would be designing interiors.
JA New York: What’s your favorite gemstone/metal to work with?
Hera: I work with .925 silver and love to experiment with unique finishes, while also adding accents of 18 karat yellow gold to create interesting two tone pieces. There are many gemstones that I love, but working with doublets and triplets gives you the ability to create an endless array of interesting colours and effects with natural gemstones.
JA New York: What is your (non-jewelry) biggest weakness?
Hera: I am a real foodie!! I love to try all different cuisines — it is the best part of travelling and experiencing food from around the world. I would also have to say shoes! One can’t ever have enough! 🙂
JA New York: What is on your desk now?
My Starbucks coffee, and a bunch of new gemstones I’m looking at that just arrived from Thailand.
