Throughout her life, self-taught mixed media artist and trained engineer, Symone Currie, considered herself “allergic to fashion.” She eschewed the bright statement pieces others were wearing, preferring instead the permanence of precious metals. From a young age, she would save her money to put towards commissioned pieces created to her exact specifications. Metal X Wire, which Symone launched in 2019, is an extension of her distinct approach to design and style coupled with the sentimentality she’s always attributed to self-expression through adornment.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Symone has lived and worked across the globe. Her unisex, demi-fine jewelry line is dedicated to celebrating the power of self, and amplifying the wearer’s own authentic sense of style. “Metal X Wire is not a fashion brand. I want the pieces to offer the flexibility to express yourself, because your style is your own,” she explains. “I am interested in creating more interchangeable pieces so that you can buy one piece now and another later to build on each other, or stand on their own.”
The Metal X Wire collections include 14k gold and 925 sterling silver earrings, chains, bangles, medallion pendants and rings that are instant heirlooms that can be passed down for generations to come. Her most recent collection, The Legacy Line, is inspired by the West Indian cultural practice of gifting silver and gold bangles to newborns as a sign of promise and prosperity for the new generation. With three signature pieces, the collection captures the multidimensional essence of individuality. Symone’s ambition to continually inspire her community with pieces that are dedicated to telling their stories brings the culture of “many one people” to the world in pieces that embody a delicate balance of elegance and edginess.
