Beatrice Matiash, the designer behind Tashka by Beatrice, is deeply interested in the strength of color. Continually influenced by many objects in her immediate surroundings, as well as masters of color within the fashion industry, Beatrice believes that one’s jewelry, and one’s color palate, makes the look!
JA New York: How would you describe your brand to someone who is not familiar with it? Give us your “elevator pitch!”
Beatrice Matiash: Tashka is for a woman that likes to make a statement, loves color and isn’t afraid to be different.
The way I dress is really simple-I pick my jewels first and then choose my clothing. At Tashka we believe that jewelry always makes the look! We design a new collection every season which is very cohesive and the aesthetics of the line really does not change that much. The biggest compliment I receive is when someone can recognize our pieces without anyone telling them it’s Tashka. We work very hard to achieve this.
JA New York: Do you have a particular wearer In mind when you are designing?
BM: I have personally gotten to know many of our customers over the years and can really say that I design with them in mind. Certain clients love specific stones and we normally can match up which one-of-a-kind piece is going home with whom.
JA New York: What is your biggest source of inspiration?
BM: I always look to see what’s going on in fashion in terms of color and style each season before designing our next collection. I love looking to Missoni and Pucci to get color direction; they are masters at color! We are know for our signature jellybean necklace which gets re-colored every season. We have many clients that collect them.
JA New York: What is the first thing you do when waking up?
BM: First thing I do is look at my to do list and figure out what we can realistically get done that day.
JA New York: What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed?
BM: Last thing before I turn the lights out-I read for 15-30 minutes every night. It’s a ritual of mine.
JA New York: What was your biggest fashion faux pas?
BM: Crop Tops (when I was young)
JA New York: What is your guilty pleasure?
BM: 1-Sushi, 2-Sushi, 3-Sushi
