JA New York: What inspires your designs?
Lauren Chisholm Fine Art Jewelry: My influences include symbolism, reinvention as well as the clean lines, geometry and timeless elegance found in Mid-Century design.
JA New York: Walk us through your design process…
LC: I start with a design in my head…I see it. I then either put pencil to paper and sketch my design or I simply sit at my jewelers bench and start to make the piece. This is where I fine tune the image in my mind. I make by hand most of my original designs although recently have had some of my drawings realized in CAD… I’m fascinated with 3D printing, it’s like magic.
JA New York: What was your favorite part about exhibiting in the New Designer Gallery?
LC: I had a number of favorite moments, as exhibiting at JA New York was a very positive experience for me. I was thrilled with the New Designer Gallery space and my booth. The way it was all set up and the decor made me feel as though I was in a special area… and I was. It was exciting for me to see my pieces displayed in a case in such a way as they could be presented in a retail store.
The caliber of retailers, press and bloggers I was exposed to was of course fantastic. In general, this was a great forum for me to meet retailers I’d otherwise not have the opportunity to meet in person….including the brilliant “Big Pitch.”
Meeting the other designers and being among such talent was a highlight…I keep in touch with many of the ladies and overall feel it was a very supportive inspiring group that exhibited!
JA New York: If a theme song played every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
LC: Hmmmmm…I’m not sure, that’s a good question I’ll have to get back to you on that
